Camilo Cienfuegos International Clinic in Havana

The Camilo Cienfuegos International Center for Retinitis Pigmentosa , is located in Havana, was founded in 1992 under the direction of Prof. Dr. Orfilio Peláez Molina, eminent ophthalmologist, who dedicated more fifty years to study the therapeutic possibilities to stop the advance of Retinitis Pigmentosa , disease It causes the so-called “ night blindness ” and that causes severe visual limitation to those who suffer from it, the vast majority of them young people.

Under his direction, a team of Cuban scientists developed their own surgical technique, which, combined with the application of ozone therapy, electrostimulation, vitamin therapy and therapy based on trace elements, has led to encouraging results. As evidence of this, in more than 10,000 cases seen to date, 78% stopped the progression of the disease, 16% expanded their field and visual acuity, and only 6% did not show satisfactory results.

The institution provides specialized services for the diagnosis and application of the latest treatments for eye conditions, myopia , hyperopia , astigmatism , cataract , glaucoma , strabismus , corneal diseases and tear ducts , among others.

In its more than 20 years, the Clinic has treated, between outpatient and hospitalized regimes, more than 99,802 patients, from some 109 countries, of which the highest percentage corresponds to patients with Pigmentary Retinosis .

It also has clinical research and consultation areas, three operating rooms equipped with cutting-edge technology, two dedicated to ophthalmological surgery in general and another to refractive surgery with excimer and femtosecond laser.
